Play AM & FM radio stations

Do you like to listen to the radio while getting ready for work in the morning? Or maybe catch a baseball game on the radio? You can listen to 120,000 live stations with Alexa!

Alexa streams radio stations through two services – iHeartRadio and TuneIn.

To start a station, just say “Alexa, play (whatever callsign / frequency) (and the station’s nickname.)”     Alexa will look for that station on both TuneIn and iHeartRadio.  Some examples:

“Alexa, play KOA 850 News Radio”
“Alexa, play 96.3 The Zone”   (say “96 point 3 The Zone”)
“Alexa, play Tokyo FM World”  (plays a radio station from Japan, on TuneIn)
“Alexa, play 670 The Score” (a sports radio station in Chicago)
“Alexa, play BBC Radio 1” (hit music in London)

You can find a list of over 850 U.S. based radio stations by visiting iHeartRadio’s parent website where you can filter the list by genre, city, and state.

TuneIn boasts over 120,000 live radio stations all over the world, and their station lists can be searched by continent, country, city, and genre.  There are also curated lists that feature commercial free music, top radio stations, and podcasts.

You can also search for stations right in the Alexa App!   Just follow these steps:

In the Alexa app, tap on the menu icon in the upper left hand corner.

Tap on Music, Video, & Books

Scroll down until you see IHeartRadio and TuneIn (TuneIn has many more choices)

Find the station you like, and then tap on it – it will start playing on the device you have selected here:

Or, you can just call the station request out to your Alexa Device.  (“Alexa, play Smooth UK” – for the first station on this list, for example.)
